BECOMING HOLY
Throughout St. John Paul II’s pontificate, he tirelessly promoted and preached a “message of hope,” which to this day is important for us to understand if we wish to be holy. This message can be summed up in these points:
As Lent begins, let’s all try to use the Sacrifice Beads of St. Therese that we made during class to learn to sacrifice in small ways. Let’s schedule God into our day by talking and listening to him more often in prayer. Let’s look for ways to help one another become the “Best Version of Ourselves” (a term often used by Matthew Kelly, a well-known Catholic motivational speaker).
Let’s try to become SAINTS! After all, that’s what we were made for! CCC #823
- Sin is the cause of all unhappiness. Sin is the root cause of all pain, death, wars, disease, natural disasters. Romans 8:20-22 and CCC #1853
- Grace is more powerful than sin. The redemption won by Jesus is far greater than the fall of man. However, on a daily basis we experience a constant battle with our choices ~ virtue or vice. God’s grace is stronger and will help us in this battle to choose virtue. God’s grace repairs the damage caused by sin. CCC#1432
- Personal Holiness is essential. Personal holiness is achieved by doing God’s will for our life. It is growing in our love for God and our neighbor. The best way to strive for holiness is by faithfully fulfilling our daily religious and worldly duties. CCC #2013 We live with integrity when our behavior matches our beliefs that are founded on the teachings of Christ.
